Money games for kids – The h.i.p. Pocket Change

Here is the seventh post about fun resources and games for kids to help with their financial education. Keep an eye out for the next one!

Enjoy!

Surprise! The United States Mint, through a special grant, created the H.I.P. Pocket Change online money game site. “How can you make heads or tails of it all?” It’s amazing!

“H.I.P.” means “History In your Pocket.” With coins, we literally carry the past in our pockets. Who knew?! ;o)

There are games, stories, and other activities that bring coins to life. You learn about the extraordinary people on the coins and about the citizens who carried them. People really are connected to coins!

The H.I.P. Pocket Change Pals, made up of seven cute coin-loving animals, act as your coin currency dream team.

Meet Peter the Mint Eagle (the “Professor of Coins”); Flip (a cute dolphin who flips (and flops) for coins); and Bill the Mint Buffalo (who loves American History).

There’s Plinky the Mint Pig (new to collecting coins but loves to stuff his brain with facts); Inspector Collector (a badger who never gives up easily and tracks down the world’s rarest coins and hears their fabulous stories); and Goldie the Mint Fish (who loves numismatics and has very refined tastes).

And finally, my favorite, Mint Police Dog who guards the key to Peter’s Time Machine. This interactive activity transports you into the middle of historic events from the colonial era to 1976 during the American Bicentennial celebration. This time machine is awesome!

Games, Toons, Coins and Medals, Coin News, Collectors Club and Mint History are featured sections.

Simple coloring pages to challenging puzzles; download screensavers; learn the coin-making process and 50 State Quarters program; coins newsworthy stories; U.S. mint history; coin collecting and tantalizing trivia.

There’s even a glossary filled with word definitions! ;o)

Cheers … Amanda van der Gulik … Excited Life Enthusiast! ;o)
